Obituary For Michael Albert Kremin

Estacada resident, Michael Kremin, died at his home on February 21, 2023. He was 72 years old.

A funeral service will be held March 17, 2023, at 11am at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Oregon City.

Michael Albert Kremin was born on July 8, 1950, in Springfield, Minnesota, to Leroy and Bessie (Krause) Kremin. He spent his childhood years in Minnesota before moving to Nebraska, where he graduated high school and received his associates degree in technical engineering. On graduation, he traveled around the U.S. until he eventually landed in Portland, OR, where he met his future wife Kathryn (Kathy) at a bar called “No Dogs Allowed.’’ Mike and Kathy were married a year later in their living room with their daughters Athena and Colleen in attendance.

Mike’s life was an adventure, lived fully. He designed buildings and modules for the Alaskan Tundra and Saudi Arabia and solar houses when the technology was just emerging and cutting edge. He trotted the globe, although sometimes reluctantly, with his wife Kathy visiting Mexico, South America, Antarctica, Alaska, Iceland, Western and Eastern Europe, and China, just to highlight a few. He took road trips with his Harley buddies from “Old Coots on Scoots” across the U.S.

Even when Mike was spending his time “relaxing” at home, it was always with a sense of humor and never halfway. He bought acres of woodland and built a saw mill because he loved woodworking. He loved archery and shooting so he set up a range. He would plug his guitar into the amp, set up the microphone, and “The House of the Rising Sun” could be heard throughout the house. Whether it was on an ATV, tractor, or his CanAm he was always on the move.

Mike is remembered by his friends and families for his humor, honesty, true friendship, and commitment to living his life without regrets.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Kathryn Kremin; his children, Athena Kremin, Colleen Nilsen, and Damion Kremin; grandchildren, Kenyon Kremin, Aidan Nilsen, and Tristan Moffet; and siblings, Peggy Rowe, Linda Kremin, and Patrick Kremin.

I'll miss you my old riding buddy. We had some great times on the road traveling on those bikes. I always enjoyed shooting the bull with you. I know your in a place we can only dream of. My deepest sympathy to the whole family, we've all lost a good friend and family member.

My condolences and prayers go out to Kathy, Athena, Colleen, and Damion; the grandchildren and all those who mourn Mike's passing. May you soon find healing, peace, and strength to carry on in his absence. It's heartwarming to see that Mike enjoyed such a full, rich life. I fondly remember him from high school days, when he regularly drew others to his warm, outgoing personality. It was his keen sense of humor and laid-back demeanor that was most enjoyed by those of us around him. In that small, tight-knit community in Nebraska, everyone knew everyone else and most of their family history. We were family. Mike and I even dated the same girl(s). Those were wonderful times and I am thankful that Mike was an enriching part of my life. Gary Maier, SHS Class of 1968.
