Daniel
Vernon Bagley – Obituary
Longtime Estacada resident, Dan Bagley,
passed away on June 26, 2026, in a Portland-area hospital. He was 84 years old.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 am on July 18, 2026, at Grace Crossing Bible Church. A private family burial was held at Greenwood Cemetery in
Astoria, Oregon.
Daniel Vernon Bagley was born June 16, 1942,
in Astoria, Oregon, to Vernon and Laurinda (Crocker) Bagley. He was raised in Knappa, Oregon, just 12
miles from Astoria. Dan graduated from Salem Academy High School and went on to
attend Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, California. While coming
home for Christmas break during his junior year in 1963, he was involved in a horrific
accident.
Following a two-year recovery, he was
accepted into George Fox College in 1965. It was at the
Junior Store where Dan first met his future wife, Carolyn. The couple became
engaged and were married in September of 1966. After
the birth of their first child, Michael, in 1968, they moved to Estacada,
Oregon, where Dan served as the pastor of the Garfield Church. Their daughter,
Sonja, was born shortly after in 1970.
Dan started working in the woods at a young age, partnering with
his father and brother in the Astoria area at Bagley and Sons Logging Co. After
entering the ministry, he supplemented the family income by working for
Publisher’s Paper Co. in Eagle Creek until 1987. From 1987 to 1990, he worked various timber jobs before
returning to school to become an educator. He ultimately worked for the
Estacada School District until his retirement. Prior to teaching for the district,
Dan spent many dedicated years serving on the Estacada School Board.
Dan loved the outdoors, trains, and, most of
all, his family.
Dan was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn, on February 13, 2023. He is survived by his son, Michael Bagley and his wife
Shannon Kelly; his daughter, Sonja McCarty and her husband Ryan McCarty; and his grandchildren,
Kayla (and husband Ben), Jesse, and Sydnie.
He is also survived by his nieces and nephews: Gary, Brenda, Luanne, Sharon,
Jay, Phyllis, Tim, Tracy, and Traylor.
