Donald Lee Ballantyne passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on October 7, 2026, at the age of 77.
Don was born November 21, 1948, in Oregon City, to Lee and Freeda Ballantyne. Growing up in Gladstone, he graduated from West Linn High School and attended Cascade College. He completed his apprenticeship in funeral service at Little Chapel of the Chimes and graduated from mortuary school in San Francisco in 1969.
That same year, Don married Diana Lott, and together they had two sons. They later divorced. Don served honorably in the United States Marine Corps and continued his dedication in the National Guard reserves after returning to Portland. He went to work for Oregon First Call Services, eventually purchasing and renaming it to Oregon Funeral Service (OFS), which he successfully ran for 40 years until selling the business in 2010.
On December 7, 2002, Don married Kathy Taylor in North Plains, Oregon. Their years together were marked by a growing love and faith, sharing a deep bond until his passing.
In retirement, Don pursued a passion for accounting and bookkeeping, finding joy and fulfillment in his work.
Don's deepest loves were his family and his faith. To know Don is to love him. He will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege to know him.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy Ballantyne; sons, Lance (Kimberly) Ballantyne, Brad (Angie) Ballantyne; stepchildren, Jessica (Nate) Radel, Jennifer (Eugene) Kerns, Josh Taylor, and Jeremy Taylor; thirteen grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; his sister Nancy Ballantyne, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Dale Ballantyne.
Visitation is October 17, 2026, from 2-4 pm at Estacada Funeral Chapel.
