In Loving Memory Of

Jeffrey Alan Ervin

December 2nd, 1972 - May 17th, 2025

Obituary

With heavy hearts and profound sorrow, we announce the passing of Jeffrey Ervin—beloved son, devoted brother, cherished uncle, and treasured friend—on May 17, 2025, at 10:44 a.m. at Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland, Oregon. Though his time with us ended far too soon, the love he gave and the joy he brought will forever echo in the hearts of all who knew him.

Born on December 2, 1972, in Stanford, California, Jeffrey's life was one of adventure, kindness, and quiet brilliance. He spent his formative years across several states—Arizona, Idaho, and ultimately Oregon, where he laid down roots and built a life rich with meaning. A proud graduate of Cleveland High School, Jeff went on to earn a degree in Business Management from Portland State University, a testament to his perseverance and intellect. He later brought that same drive and dedication to his role at 3 J’s Distribution Company, where he skillfully managed operations for over a decade.

But beyond his professional accomplishments, Jeff’s true legacy lives in the way he loved—with his whole heart and an open spirit. Jeff had an innate gift for caring for others. He fiercely loved his people—his family, his friends, his circle—and made it his mission to take care of them in every way he could. Whether through a warm meal, a thoughtful gesture, or simply showing up when someone needed him most, Jeff made sure those he loved felt safe, supported, and seen.

His culinary talents were legendary among friends and family; no gathering was complete without one of his lovingly prepared dishes, served with a generous helping of laughter and storytelling. Cooking was not just a skill for Jeff—it was an act of love, a way he nurtured those around him.

His devotion to his canine companions was unwavering. He now joins Cleo, Caesar, and Isis across the rainbow bridge, leaving behind Nero, his faithful and loving dog, with whom he had dreamed of sharing new adventures, including a scuba diving trip that remained on his bucket list—a symbol of his unquenchable curiosity and zest for life.

A seeker of beauty in the overlooked, Jeff was a connoisseur of treasures—frequenting thrift stores, garage and estate sales, and scouring the internet for collectibles and curiosities that spoke to his eclectic and vibrant spirit. Each item he found carried a story, just as each person who knew him carries a memory of his warmth, humor, and generous soul.

Jeffrey is survived by his devoted mother, Carolyn Hyland, and his beloved sisters, Nina Ervin-Peterson and Andrea Ervin. He also leaves behind many adoring nieces and nephews whose lives were brightened by his presence, his jokes, and his unwavering support.

Jeffrey’s passing leaves an immeasurable void, but also a powerful legacy—a reminder to live fully, love deeply, and find joy in the little things. He will be deeply missed, eternally remembered, and forever loved.

“Don’t cry because it’s over; smile because it happened.”

Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed, and very dear to our heart. Uncle Jeff you are so very loved and missed. I know you are at peace now and playing with your beloved dogs. Angelina Cruz
Dear Sister, our deepest condolences for your tremendous loss. We have love and respect for our dear nephew Jeffery.
My most vivid memory of Jeff was as a young boy of perhaps 3 or 4 with wild curly hair and him wearing cowboy boots. When we still lived in Phoenix. After visiting with us it was time to leave sis, you were trying to get Andrea settled in the car and I had Jeff still in the house. His Uncle Bruce was keeping him busy. Jeff I guess didn't want to stay inside and without warning kicked Uncle Bruce just below the knee, with his little boots. To this day Uncle Bruce has the scar. We have giggled about this on occasion.

Jeffery grew to be a loving son , brother ,nephew , and friend .His love for his mom was tremendous and the love and care he showed family was greatly appreciated.

Jeffery, Rest in Peace and know you are loved always .

It is hard to believe you are gone, Jeff. In the 16+ years that I have know you and considered you to be one of my best friends, we have been able to share some amazing memories. In 2012 when the PS3 was the console to have, Jeff would buy cheap ones and fix them up to get them working again. Both Jeff and I loved to play together and Jeff had a Camo controller that he used a lot. I vividly remember one night with Jeff in 2012 when Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 2 came out we were some of the first people that waited in line in the middle of the night at Best Buy waiting for the release and get the swag that came with it. I was fortune enough to go on many adventures with Jeff into the wilderness on hikes with our dogs, mountains in the snow, and cold and warm beaches on both coasts.
It is so true, Jeff showed love in his food and actions. He also loved figuring out how things worked with electronics and cars and home improvement. A true jack of all trades.
I miss hanging out with Jeff, catching him watch the most random movies and going out for sushi or ramen.
Always in our hearts! 💕💔Rest in peace my friend.

You were a great uncle for everyone in the family. You will always be loved and missed. I'll miss those moments when you came to my volleyball games to watch me play, and we made pasta together. I'm devastated that those moments will never happen again. May you rest and run with your dogs. We love you and miss you deeply. Mari Peterson

To My Uncle I miss you so,
They say there is a reason
They say time will heal, Neither time or reason will change the way I feel. Gone are the days We used to share.

Will never close,I miss you more than Anybody knows...

I Pray that you know just how loved you are. You are able to be free of any pain you were in. And I know you’ll be with Cleo, Caesar, and Isis again. I will cherish and always be so great full for every moment we spent with you.
