Betty Woods passed away with her children by her side on
January 1, 2026. Betty was 78 years old. A celebration of life will be held at
Grace Crossing Bible Church in Estacada, Oregon at 1:00PM on Saturday, March
14, 20026.
Betty was born on July 13, 1947, to Dewey and Dorothy
Moss in Lebanon, Oregon. She was the middle girl among three sisters. Betty was
raised in a loving home focused on outdoor adventures, family time, and
learning the value of hard work. She developed close friendships during her
childhood that lasted until her death.
Betty attended Oregon State University where she received
her bachelor’s degree in education. While at OSU, she agreed to go on a
last-minute date with fellow Lebanon kid Steve Woods. Thus, would begin their
love story that lasted until his death in 2018.
Betty and Steve were married in their hometown on June
28, 1969. Shortly after the wedding, Betty joined Steve on his overseas U.S.
Airforce deployment in Turkey. This was a tremendous adventure for the
newlyweds.
From Turkey, the Air Force moved the young couple to
Austin, Texas where their first child Jon was born. The family soon moved back
to their home state settling in eastern Oregon while Steve completed his
master’s degree in education. While living in Union, their daughter Kelly was
born. Eventually, they moved back to western Oregon to be closer to family.
The family moved to Estacada and welcomed their son
Chris. It was in Estacada where Betty and Steve raised their kids, taught in
the Estacada School District and became cherished members of the community
living there for 40 years. Betty received her master’s degree in education from
the University of Portland while teaching in Estacada. She was known for being a
superb educator teaching for decades in multiple schools in the district. She was
famous for her kindness, delicious sugar cookies, and her beautiful smile.
Betty was the biggest cheerleader around when it came to
watching her children participate in sports and activities, never missing a
game, meet, or match.
Betty’s close bond with her sisters brought their
families together for many adventures while they were raising kids. Fishing
trips, travels, and annual Moss Family Christmas celebrations were always on
the schedule.
After retirement, Betty and Steve moved to Salem, Oregon
where they enjoyed spending time with friends and family.
Betty is proceeded in death by her loving husband Steve
Woods. She is survived by sons, Jon Woods (Jodie) of Salem and Chris Woods
(Melanie) of Estacada; daughter Kelly Woods of Boise, Idaho; grandsons Stephen,
Grant and Luke; granddaughter Emma; great-grandson Benjamin; sisters Judy
Flaskerud (Gerald) of Lacey, Washington and Patsy Smith (Keith) of Bend, Oregon.
