In Loving Memory Of

Bret James Proffitt

September 4th, 1961 - July 22nd, 2024

Obituary

Bret James Proffitt, formerly of La Grande, peacefully passed away at his home Colton on Monday, July 22, 2024, after bravely fighting cancer. He was 62 years old.

On September 4, 1961, in Pendleton Bret was the beloved third child of Dale and Rosaleen (Troyer) Proffitt. In 1967, the family relocated to La Grande where Bret attended schools and fostered a passion for swimming, even achieving success at the Junior Olympics. His interests extended to skiing and fishing during his formative years.

Embracing faith in his adulthood, Bret dedicated himself to Christianity. He undertook ministerial courses and led youth groups with sincerity. Nature held a special place in his heart as he cherished hunting for eagle feathers and rocks, indulging in fishing trips, and enthusiastically supporting his grandchildren in their sports endeavors.

Professionally skilled as a carpenter, brick-mason, and certified asbestos remover, Bret contributed his expertise to numerous projects in the Portland area. Notably serving as a foreman during the renovation of Lloyd Center showcased his dedication to craftsmanship.

Left to honor Bret's memory are his son Ryan Proffitt (Tabitha) of Estacada, David Proffitt, Brad Proffitt; 9 cherished grandchildren including Peyton and Deagan; devoted parents Dale and Rosie Proffitt of Colton; loving brother Alan Proffitt of Sandy; caring sister Carol Knopp of La Grande; nephews; great-nephews; aunts Beverly Hartell of Klamath Falls and Colleen Matthews of La Grande; a host of cousins, other relatives, and dear friends.

Bret is reunited in eternal peace with his grandparents, aunts, and uncles.

In remembrance of Bret's life filled with faith, dedication to craftmanship, love for family, and appreciation for nature's beauty - may his legacy endure through the memories he created with those he held dear.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Estacada Funeral Chapel. Private interment will be at the Elwood Cemetery in Colton.
