Ellie Pursel, a beloved mother, grandmother, and
great-grandmother, passed away on January 11, 2026 surrounded by family.
Born Elanore Lorraine George on August 18, 1938, in Centralia, Washington, she
was the cherished daughter of Henry and Lillie George. She grew up in nearby
Rochester, Washington, where she attended school and graduated from high
school.
On September 26, 1957, Ellie married Robert Pursel of Sandy, Oregon where she
made a home as she dedicated herself to a life centered on love, family, and
togetherness.
Ellie’s greatest joy was her family. She was devoted to her children,
grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and her home was always a place of
warmth and welcome. Affectionately known as “Grandma Candy,” she was known for
her open door, kind heart, and the ever-present treats. She cherished family
gatherings, hosting memorable holiday celebrations and attending annual camping
trips that brought everyone together. Some of her most treasured moments were
spent in quiet conversation over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine (why not).
Ellie enjoyed many hobbies throughout her life, including crocheting, bowling,
and reading. She was also an avid gardener and took great pride in her rose
garden, which reflected the care and patience she showed in all aspects of her
life. She truly was the heart of her family.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Verna, who was also her lifelong best
friend.
Ellie is survived by her children: Julie Hansell; Bob Pursel (Carla); Kim
Willis (Al); Teri Hammond (Kim); and Michael Pursel (Amber). She also leaves
behind 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward
her legacy of love, kindness, and family devotion.
Ellie Pursel will be deeply missed and forever remembered for the love she gave
so freely and the family she held so close.
