In Loving Memory Of

Elizabeth Anne Willhite

November 24th, 1954 - November 3rd, 2025

Obituary

Elizabeth “Beth” Anne Willhite, aged 70, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2025, surrounded by her loving family at a hospital in Clackamas County, Oregon.

Born on November 24, 1954, in Taylorville, Illinois, Beth was raised by her devoted parents, Robert and Shirley Corzine. Her roots in agriculture go deep in Illinois, where her family has farmed the same land for generations. She applied the midwestern values and work ethic she learned from her parents throughout her life.

She pursued her education at the University of Illinois, earning a bachelor's degree in forestry and a master's degree at the University of Idaho in forest entomology. On June 25, 1977, she married Mark Willhite at the Assumption Christian Church in Assumption, Illinois, where she and her family were long standing members.
In 1979, the couple relocated to Roseburg, Oregon and welcomed three children, Allegra (1981), Dalen (1984) and Matthew (1984). They raised their children on a farm near Silverton, Oregon, where Beth tended to a prolific garden, raised pygmy goats, hand-sewed Halloween costumes, and volunteered as a 4-H instructor, all in addition to working as a full-time forest entomologist. In 1995, the family moved to Sandy, Oregon to be closer to Mark and Beth’s work. Beth designed the family’s home from top to bottom, set among the tall trees she loved.

She had an incredible compassion for others and made connections with people wherever she went. Her unlimited capacity for love and friendship resulted in a wide circle of friends and family who will miss her dearly.

While many of her happiest times were when she was with family or friends, she also deeply loved her profession and took great joy in her work. Beth worked for the US Forest Service for over 40 years, and counted the friendships she gained there on equal footing with her many professional accomplishments. Outside of work, her hobbies were numerous and underscored by a deep appreciation of the natural world. She enjoyed hiking, gardening, traveling, cooking, baking, and many, many other projects.

She is survived by her husband, Mark, and their three children: Allegra Willhite, Dalen (Kerry) Willhite, and Matthew (Andrea) Willhite; her step-mother, Carolyn Corzine; her siblings, Kathy (Dan) Wormhoudt, Randy (Susan) Corzine, Guy (Trish) Corzine, Jill (R.D.) Waddington, Curt (Dawnna) Corzine, and Tammy (Mike) Ashby; as well as her four grandsons, Elian, Kael, Sawyer, and Reid.

Beth's life was a testament to her love for family, friends, and nature, and we were so lucky to have known her.

Celebrations of life for Beth are planned in Oregon and Illinois. The Oregon event will take place December 14th at 1pm at the Carver Event Center. The Illinois event is planned for the spring. Feel free to email memorialbethwillhite@gmail.com for more details.

Thank you for making us better people within the trees. Kameron Sam
My condolences to all on the loss of an outstanding person, friend, and the biggest smile in the room. Beth was a superlative co-worker and friend. She was always happy to see you and chat about how life was going. She cared for everyone that she interacted with, took time to know you and share amazing experiences. She will be missed but never gone, as we will cherish memories of her when we are in the forest, the place we were all so lucky to spend time with her. Chad Atwood
My condolences to all of your family. I knew Beth through many meetings of the Western Forest Insect Work Conference. She always brought such positive energy to everything she did, and was always helpful and welcoming to new members and young scientists. She helped elevate the sense of cooperation and collegiality that our professional community strives to maintain. Ken Raffa
My condolences to all Beth’s family, friends, and colleagues. I knew Beth from our work in the Forest Health Protection group in the Forest Service. It only took about a minute after meeting her that she was one sharp cookie - very knowledgeable, dedicated, and energetic. I remember her as a person that had a very noticeable presence about her, and also one with a great smile. My prayers to the family for closeness and fond remembrance. Shawna Bautista
My heart goes out to you, Mark, and Family. I knew Beth only through our years with the CPO, where it was abundantly clear that she was a sweet and gentle soul. Her quiet strength and dedication was ever-present in her thoughtful articulation in every conversation. I am so grateful to have known and served with her. She made me a better person and will live forever in my heart. Julie Stephens
