Obituary

Gold Beach resident Marilyn Skinner passed away March 15, 2024 surrounded by family at her daughter’s home in Estacada, Oregon. She was 92 years old.

Marilyn Skinner was born to James and Lenore Eggers on July 17, 1931, in Delta, Colorado. She was the oldest of two daughters, having a younger sister Joyce. Her father was a farmer/carpenter, and her mother was a housewife/school teacher. After high school Marilyn attended Harding Christian College in Searcy Arkansas and completed a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics. While attending college, Marilyn reconnected with fellow Harding student TV Skinner, whom she had originally met as a child in Cortez, Colorado. On September 6, 1953 TV and Marilyn were married in Cortez, Colorado. They relocated to Vale, Oregon, where they owned and operated a dairy farm and other farming enterprises in partnership with TV’s parents and brother. Their four children, Terry, Randy, Tammy, and Liana were born during this time. In 1969 the Skinners sold the farm and moved to Gold Beach, Oregon where TV served as the minister for the Gold Beach Church of Christ. Marilyn volunteered and served in the Gold Beach community for over 50 years. She was an active member of the Gold Beach of Church Christ teaching Sunday School classes, Vacation Bible School, and Ladies Bible classes. Marilyn joined Hospital Auxiliary in 1977 and served as President for two different 2-year terms, and served as Area 4 director for 2 years. (Bandon, Coquille, Reedsport, and Florence) She worked a regular shift at the Hospital gift shop and reception area as long as her health would allow. Marilyn was Co-Chairman of the local Red Cross Blood Drive for over 30 years. Marilyn and TV were active in AFS and hosted students for two different years. Setsuko was from Japan and Dagmar was from Austria. These young ladies became part of her family and have stayed connected throughout the years. Marilyn was also part of the Mentor Program at Riley Creek School and has remained in contact with some of the students that she worked with there.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband TV, September 2,2021. Surviving family members are her children Terry(Cindy), Randy(Betty), Tammy(Richard), Liana(Ron), with their spouses; her twelve grandchildren and her eighteen great grandchildren.

Janice Marilyn Skinner AKA: Marilyn, Mom, Grandma, and Great-Grandma.

Funeral Service for Marilyn will take place Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Gold Beach Church of Christ followed by a graveside service at Rogue Cemetery.

I met TV when my husband and I moved here from Reno in 2019. We actually met in front of our mailboxes. After a good strong handshake from TV we chatted for a few minutes. He told me it was just he and his wife Marilyn who lived there but that she was ill otherwise I am sure I would have met Marilyn too that day as I took a liking to TV. He was always so friendly when we saw him outside. Usually chopping wood but always had a HELLO for us by the wave of his hand. I recently lost my husband of 25 years to diabetes. I sure wish it could be today like it was in June 2019. Marilyn, I wish I could have met you. You and TV are together again and may you both rest in eternal peace. My condolences to the Skinner family. Gladys Disibbio
