Obituary

Longtime Estacada resident, Jeffrey Zeits, died Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at his home with this family by his side.

A celebration of his life, with military honors, will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, February 23, 2024 at Estacada Funeral Chapel.

Jeffrey Lee Zeits was born June 13, 1958 in Portland, Oregon to Jack and Geneva (Pendergrass) Zeits.  He was raised in Estacada where he graduated from high school.  He married Ivy Cain in Utah on December 23, 1977.  Jeff then entered into the US Navy in 1977 where he was in Operation Eagle Claw which was a hostage rescue mission in Iran and was a Hull Tech on the USS San Bernardino LST 1189. He later was honorably discharged in 1981.   After his time serving our country, he moved back to Estacada where he worked as a logger.  In 1999, he moved to Iowa, owned and operated Berts Pub and Grub. For most of his working career he was in construction.  In 2011, Jeff moved back to Estacada to be near his grandson.

Jeff was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and owned several Harleys. He courageously managed many health issues, loved working with his hands, never backed away from a challenge and had a great sincere laugh.

Survivors include his daughter, Karmen (Andrew) Snider; grandson, Michael Snider; brothers, Russell and Charlie Zeits; sister, Barbara Baker and several nieces and nephews.

I met Jeff and Karmen when Jeff owned Bert’s in Afton. It was more than a job we were family. Jeff was a tough guy to work for but he taught me a lot about life and I admired his ability to live outside the box and be who he wanted to be instead of what others thought he should be. Thanks for all the life lessons Jeff you will be missed Gina
To our baby girl and our grandson the love he had for you two was so strong you two meant the world to him I will never forget the day our daughter and grandson were born the happiest days of his life Ivy Taylor
Jeff was a very funny man loved his laugh when I became his neighbor 6 years ago with not having neighbors and quite country life will he made up for that there was no quiet days with him always moving vehicles and shuffling various things always on the move when it was quiet you'd worried something was wrong ....sure going to miss that man the neighborhood won't be the same . I always admired Jeff's never ending love for his daughter Karmen, my best friend for nearly 20 years. He was always ready to have fun and make celebrations special for others. His spunky humor and his way of living life without a care of what others thought is an attribute not many of us possess. I can see his mohawk waving in the wind as he rides high now! Wish we could be there to celebrate Jeff, going but not forgotten. So many memories❣️ Rick and B.J.
So sorry to hear about Jeff's passing. I visited him at his home in the Avamere Mobile home court across from the library to welcome him back to the Estacada community. He was very jovial and a joy to visit with! Annette Lundeen Reisbick
