Joan Hale was indeed a "gentle spirit." In 1995, she heard about 300 Main while visiting a relative and she and her husband came to meet me and fill out the paperwork. An apartment was ready for them only months later and they left Illinois to live at 300 Main. Joan was a wonderful part of our community. She and I may have met years before when I was a high school volunteer at the Rehabilitation Center in Peoria while she was getting physical therapy. In her free time, she also volunteered. Joan's story about this time was published in an Oregon senior publication. She never walked, but she used weights to develop her upper body and learned to transfer herself from her chair with the help of a stationary pole. Her determination matched her kindness. My memories of Joan are many and precious - like the time we garlanded her electric wheelchair with flowers from 300 Main and she drove in the Fourth of July Parade! Or how the children from Red Barn Preschool crowded around her to make their Christmas craft project. Yes, a life well-lived. I'm so grateful for our many years together. Linda Forsberg, former manager of 300 Main.

She was "Joy" to all who crossed her path. Her faith in Jesus Christ her Savior was evident and serving Him became her mission in life. Her light never flickered. I am blessed to call her friend and grateful for the quality time we were granted just prior to her graduation to Heaven. She will be missed for sure as her gentle spirit touched many. I'm confident she heard "well done thou good and faithful servant" as she rested safely in the arms of Jesus. Till we meet again my friend; Thank you for the memories. Love you Laura Campbell
