John Gilmore

April 29, 1943 — March 20, 2020

Longtime Estacada resident, John Gilmore, died at his home on Friday, March 20, 2020. He was 76.

A private family graveside service will be held.

John Wesley Gilmore was born April 29, 1943 in Eugene, Oregon to Joe and Elizabeth (Brown) Gilmore. He was mostly raised in Myrtle Creek where he graduated from high school. John received an associate degree from OTI in Klamath Falls, Oregon in the Heavy-Duty Diesel Mechanics. On September 13, 1963, he married his eighth-grade sweetheart, Sally Osmond, in Myrtle Creek. In 1968 John began working for the US Forest Service on the Mt. Hood National Forest. They moved to Ripplebrook where their three children loved hiking and getting motorcycle rides with their dad on the many forest trails. In 1974 they moved into Estacada where they have lived since. John retired in 2005.

He enjoyed hunting Pickett Butte, fishing, woodworking, and spending time with his grandkids. John was also a member of the Garfield Community Church for 47 years.

Survivors include his wife, Sally; daughter, Christine (Tracy) Kammeyer; sons, Mark (Nicci) Gilmore, Daniel (Raelene) Gilmore; grandchildren Hannah, Molly and Tyler Kammeyer, Hunter, Hailey, Simon, Sydney and McKenzie Gilmore. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter Katie Kammeyer.
