Mark E. Johnson – Obituary
Sandy resident, Mark Johnson, died unexpectedly of a stroke on Sunday, July 16, 2023 in a Portland area hospital. He was 61 years old.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Grace Crossing Bible Church in Estacada.
Mark Edward Johnson was born July 24, 1962 in Oakland, California to Dayton and Louise (Perrow) Johnson. He was raised in Pennsylvania until age 10, then his family moved to Walnut Creek, California. After high school, Mark attended several years of college, earning his BA in music from California State University, Fullerton. He met Ann Schweitzer at Biola University, where both were studying music, then again at Christ Reformed Church Anaheim. They married January 3, 1998 in La Mirada, CA. They made their home in California, raising and homeschooling three children, before moving to Sandy in 2016.
For most of his career, Mark worked in music. He and Ann were choir directors at Christ Reformed Church Anaheim for 14 years. Mark also worked at Allergan, Inc. in Irvine CA and in Information Technology in Santa Monica CA. For the last 4 years, Mark worked for First Student Bus Company in Gresham, where he was designated as a 5-star driver.
Mark’s interests included music, especially that of Bach and Pat Metheny, Ultimate (disc sport), chess, baking with chocolate and learning about science. He was known for his energy and passion, his intelligence and curiosity, and above all, his great love for the Lord, his family, and his friends.
Survivors include his wife; Ann Schweitzer-Johnson, son, Nathaniel Johnson, daughters, Katharina and Gabrielle Johnson, brothers, Paul and Jeffrey Johnson, and parents, Dayton and Louise Johnson.
