To the entire family of Mark P. Putman,

Patty and I send our condolences and prayers with the hope that all of you are able to find comfort in the company of family and friends at this time.

Mark and I shared a lifelong friendship that endured 50+ years of our separation between Oregon and NY State. Our childhood, teen and young adult years were blissfully filled with countless outdoor field & stream adventures, cow pasture baseball and football games, guitar jamming sessions and general mischief. We reminisced about all of this during our numerous phone conversations over the past several months. I'm grateful for those heart-to-heart phone trips down memory lane, and I'll never forget the youthful optimism and enthusiasm that Mark expressed whenever he recalled our stories from the past.

Mark's natural talent for music expression was phenomenal. He was a self-taught guitar player and was a prolific writer of beautiful melodies and lyrics. His soulful baritone tenor singing voice was perfectly suited to performing his original ballads...pure magic. Mark accomplished all of this without the help of modern high tech sound labs and auto-tune vocals.
They say that you never really know a man until you hear and feel the music that he carries in his heart and soul. A LOT of us knew Mark through his music, and we know he was really something special.

Mark carried himself as a stoic, "don't mess with me" type of guy throughout his youth. He was tough, and while defending his honor, he fought and won many physical battles during this time. Underneath it all, Mark had a HUGE heart, and he was a man who would give everything he could to help someone in need.

Mark wrote the following words as part of his original song titled, "This Is My Place."
"Help me find Heaven...forest so green and mountains that pierce the sky
Lend me your hand, and I'll lead you to a place I'm going to...
Sparkling waters, and unclouded skies
This is my place...no one ever dies"

Fly high, Buddy. You're in God's hands now, RIP, my forever friend.

With love and sympathy,
