Obituary

Long time resident of Oregon City, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Randall "Randy" Zink; 76 years old; passed away peacefully on November 9, 2023 at Avamere Mt. View Rehabilitation Center. He had struggled many years with multiple illnesses such as MENS1 (Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Syndrome) Prostate Cancer, Myeloid leukemia, and Diabetes which he had his leg amputated. But it was liver cancer that took him.

Randy was born December 16, 1946 in Spokane, WA. His parents were Donald "Don" Zink & Katherine "Kay" (Alexander) Zink. His parents divorced in 1950. Since his mother worked, the boys were taken care of by their loveable paternal Grandmother Fluff (Gladys Zink).

After graduating at Shadle Park High School in 1965, Randy enlisted in the Navy 1966 and was on the USS Cowell ship during the Viet Nam War. Randy was discharged with honorable discharge in 1970. He moved to Portland, OR. to help his father who owned Zink Furniture deliver furniture to customers. He had various jobs such as Janitor at the various Oregon City School District, Gunderson Co. doing welding, but the most enjoyful job was in 1986 working for Albertina Kerr. He enjoyed working with the disabled children. He was promoted to Program Manager to oversee 5 group homes. His hobbies included woodmaking and making model WW11 airplanes. His love of dogs & cats were always present throughout his life.

In 1979, Randy married Kay McBurney. They had one child, Zachery Zink. They later divorced. Randy was a devoted father and was very proud of his son. In 1999, Randy married Marlene (Price) Wall. This marriage included three step-daughters, Leanne, Terra, and Tawni. Randy is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Marlene, son; Zachery (Sarah) Zink, Granddaughter, Avery Zink; niece, Nichole Zink, former wife, Kay McBurney. Step-daughters, Leanne (Kyle) Pomrankey, Terra (Brad) Emerson, Tawni (Steve) Copher, 6 step-grandchildren, special friends Linda Clark & Craig Bauer, his cat Buster, and his dog, Toby. Preceded in death are his parents, grandparents, brother, Ronald Zink.

At his request, there will be no service. Randy will be interned at Willamette National Cemetery, Portland, OR.

In lieu of flowers, please donate in his name to the Veterans Hospital and Oregon Humane Society. Special Thanks to the Avamere Mt. View Rehabilitation Care staff for taking special care of him for 4 years and the various doctors at the Veteran Hospital.

Randy was like the brother I never had. We met while working at Kerr Center and found out that we had a lot of things in common! So for more than 30 years we enjoyed hanging out and having long conversations. Randy was smart and funny and such a great friend. I’ll miss him forever. Linda Clark
