Hello, my name is Cori. I am one of the kids Bob taught how to blacksmith at Philip Foster farm, and the artist who drew the portrait seen here. I didn't know Bob had passed until today, his birthday, when I tried to call him and wish him well. I am heartbroken to learn of his passing. The fire he kindled in me at 11 years old, coaching me through my first few projects on the forge has never gone out, and I am still blacksmithing 16 years later. He used to bring me cheese bagels while I forged, and I'd eat them off the anvil with their added flavor of coal dust. He would demonstrate to me how to forge something, and then step aside while I all but elbowed him out of the way to try it myself. He would do the talking for the school tour groups so that I could have more time hammering. We became friends- and I came to love him for his fiery Irish temperament, his mischevious sense of humor, and his endless supply of stories (and bagels). He was like a grandfather to me. He is already missed, and will not be forgotten by me or my family.
Rest in Peace Bob. I wish I could show you all of the things I'm going to make. And I ate a bagel in your honor today.
Love,
-Cori
