In Loving Memory Of

Samuel Albert Ivey

July 2nd, 1930 - February 20th, 2022

Obituary

Samuel Albert Ivey passed away naturally, in his Home, with the presence of family ... Just the way he wanted.

Small in stature, but big in richness of spirit and generous of heart ...

Born in 1930, Sam lived a full and blessed life. A very humble, and practical person centered on providing for his family and having a gratifying, purpose driven work life. He was a Veteran of the US Navy, after World War II, and excelled at Diesel engine retrofitting and maintenance on board Navy vessels. Always a mechanically curious sort, after an honorable discharge from the Navy, he immediately got a job as a Field Test Engineer at Detroit Diesel, performing accelerated engine testing and failure analysis on new designs. He worked in this capacity his entire 35-year career for the same company and received many accolades for first time inventions and finding solutions to tough problems.

At the same time his career started, he married his Highschool sweetheart and they started the adventure of a young 50s style family that went on for decades. He traveled the world and gave the family many opportunities to live in different places and experience much of what that had to offer. He was a very practical Patriarch and always lead by being an outstanding example of a human being.

He often commented on how thankful he was to have a family, stating it was his greatest joy in life.

The memory of his richly fulfilled life will live on for generations through his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and the many people he touched ... just by being himself.

Grandpa Sam as this wonderful capable man was most often called, had an amazing memory for detail of engines for sure and was widely respected for his consulting knowledge and skills for all things diesel. But it was always more about people and how people did what they were setting out to accomplish. He had just the right advice at just the right time to provide the fuel a person needed whether an engine was involved or not. Grandpa Sam provided a special type of loving and deeply involved stability especially during later teen years and beyond for his four sons Mike, Jay, Matt, Paul and a daughter Jennifer and all of their spouses and partners, grandchildren and great grandchildren too! Sam Albert Ivey was born in Detroit Michigan to the beautiful English family of William and Loveday E. (Keast) Ivey. Sam touched countless lives throughout his well-traveled, well-tended and deeply caring life. Always a light on for you grandpa Sam! Laura
