In Loving Memory Of

Shirley Anne Janzen

April 17th, 1943 - July 15th, 2023

Obituary

Longtime Estacada resident, Shirley Janzen, died on Saturday, July 15, 2023 in Gresham.  She was 80 years old.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at Living Word Fellowship, 12700 SE Orient Drive, Boring, OR 97009.  Private interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery.

Shirley Anne Johnson was born April 17, 1943 in Tacoma, Washington to Ross and Evelyn (Dudley) Johnson.  She was raised in Fircrest, Washington and graduated in 1961 from Woodrow Wilson High School. After high school, she went to work for Weyerhaeuser Shipping Company in Tacoma.  On December 17, 1965, she married Gaylord Janzen in University Place, Washington.  They moved to Kirksville, Missouri, where Gaylord attended medical school.  Shirley worked as a bookkeeper at Montgomery Ward and Hollister until 1969, when they moved back to Oregon.  They settled in Estacada in 1970, where Dr. Janzen began his medical practice and they started a family.  Shirley handled the payroll and A/P for the medical office, working part time from home until they both retired in 2000. Shirley raised three children and devoted her life to loving her family and serving her Lord through her involvement at her church. She was always committed to teaching children about Jesus since she had decided to follow Jesus as a child.

Shirley enjoyed ceramics, flowers, hummingbirds, and being an active part of her church.  Her greatest passion was teaching children through the Bible Release Program, where she taught and helped coordinate for 40 years.  In 2005, she also received the Sunday School Teacher of the Year award through the Oregon District of the Assembly of God Church. She loved spending time with her family in Sunriver and celebrating every birthday and holiday together.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. Gaylord Janzen; daughters, Melanie (Vaughn) Wagner, Dr. Cynthia (Leo) Hoeft; son, Dr. Darren (Jessie) Janzen; 7 grandchildren, Stephanie (Dillen), Nicole (Landon), Grant (Lauren), Alea, Brittany (Scott), Graycin, and Kate;  and 2 great grandchildren, William and Millie Kaye.

I just wanted to extend my condolences to the Janzen family. I'm a long time patient of Dr. Janzen and know your commitment to serving our Lord! God bless you all! Stephen Fay
I want to extend my deepest and most sincere condolences to Gaylord and the family of Shirley Janzen. It’s been a privilege to have known the couple since the 1970s. They modeled the Christian walk and faithfulness to God and His House. I remember Shirley as gentle, sweet and kind. It’s been wonderful reconnecting with “Doc” in recent years (thanks to the internet.) What peace we have as believers in the Lord Jesus Christ knowing there will soon come an eternal Grand Reunion. What a day that will be! Ken Riemenschneider

Dear Gaylord "Doc" and Family,
Shirley touched the lives of all who knew her, and her life was a living testimony for Jesus Christ. She was a Proverbs 31 woman of God who served her Savior and Lord so faithfully. Although we were not able to be with you personally at Shirley's service, our hearts and prayers are most assuredly with you. May the Lord engulf you in His loving arms and may the Comforter, the Holy Spirit bring you peace beyond measure. We are praying that the words Paul wrote in Romans 15:13 will be experienced by you and yours as you walk with Jesus during these difficult days.
Love and Prayers,
Bill & Bea Griggs

Our friendship spans many years. These years have been filled with many fond memories. The Pauls family will continue to pray for you, the Janzen family, that God's love and peace will surround you, daily. This is not a final goodbye, as we believers will see her once again in the future. Blessings! Lonney, Wilda and Family
Gaylord, you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Wishing we could be there in person for the Service, but that is not possible at this time. We know that you are being graced by The Comforter, the Holy Spirit, to bring God's grace and peace to your hearts. Pastor Herb & Gail Christensen
