Obituary

Longtime Gresham resident, Val Garrison, died on Sunday, December 29, 2024 in Portland. He was 77 years old.

Michael Val Garrison was born February 14, 1947 in Nampa, Idaho to Harlan and Helen (Howell) Garrison. Val enjoyed his family and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Val is survived by his wife, Linda; daughter Nicolle (Duane) Dickey; sons Derek (Leigh), Cody (Rode), and Travis (Katie) Garrison; brother Gary and sister Gaye (Gunderson); eighteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Val received his education at Burns and Nampa High Schools, Ricks Junior College and Boise State University, excelling in football and track & field. He went on to teach and coach, the bulk of his career being spent at Barlow High School where he went on to become an athletic director and administrator.

Val’s kindness and care for others was handed down to his family and friends.

A memorial service will be held on January 25th at 1pm followed by a less formal gathering to celebrate Val’s life starting at 2pm. Both will be held at the LDS church at 12300 SE 312th Ave in Boring, Oregon. Folks are very welcome to attend one or the other or even both.

For those unable to join in person, a virtual link to the memorial portion is provided here: https://zoom.us/j/95282838399.

In lieu of flowers or donations, please honor Val by continuing his legacy of charity, kindness, compassion and unconditional love - not only to others, but also to yourselves.

Val was a very caring, skilled educator. I valued his friendship very much. Dale Rohrbough
Val gave me my start in Pole Vault coach when I was just 18 years old. I never would’ve chosen that path without his push. 35 years later it’s still one of the things I enjoy most in life. Thanks Val you made an impact on so many Todd Wright

I am saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. Garrison. He was a fixture in the halls of Barlow. He always had a smile on his face, even if he was getting after you for something. Mr. Garrison was a great teacher and a very kind individual! Mike Turner
